Clarity Centre – Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces

Clarity Center has developed a Working in Confined Spaces training program for individuals who
enter, manage, or oversee confined spaces.

Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces is a level 2 qualification for those entering a confined
space to perform work.

Course Overview

The Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces program provides the knowledge and skills necessary
to safely work in confined spaces with shallow entries, adequate ventilation, and no likelihood of
flooding. The course focuses on environments that have a realistic possibility of encountering
specific risks during work activities.

Delegates will receive hands-on experience with two methods of entering confined spaces, including
completing tasks while attached to a lifeline and removal from a lifeline requiring rescue by a team.

The training is a combination of both theoretical and practical components, with a focus on hands-on experience for delegates.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the Clarity Centre Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces training program,
participants will be able to:

• Conduct risk assessments of confined space hazards
• Prepare to enter and work safely in medium risk confined spaces
• Understand different types of gaseous atmospheres
• Use gas monitoring equipment
• Follow self-rescue procedures
• Safely use harness tripod, man-riding winch, fall arrest, safety line, and escape breathing
apparatus as directed

Course Content

The Clarity Centre Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces training program covers:

1. Health and safety overview
2. Confined space regulations and legislation
3. Specified risks
4. Safe systems of work including risk assessments
5. Dangerous atmospheres and environmental monitoring
6. Gas detection equipment
7. Safety, access, and escape equipment – including davit, tripod, man-riding winches, retrieval
   devices, and escape breathing apparatus
8. Harness (EN1497) user inspection and fitting
9. Vertical access procedures
10. Evacuation from a hazardous environment
11. Written assessment
